How We Met

In late Fall 2004 Brittany was living at 1214 Idaho Ave in Santa Monica while attending college. A month after she moved in Sam sublet the apartment above her from a friend. Shortly after Sam moved in, Brittany began to notice Sam hanging out next door with fellow neighbor Debra and her Shih-tzu named Lulu. Debra introduced the two and a date followed. Sam made a 3 course dinner for Brittany and they talked and laughed for hours. Three months later Sam left for a year long trip around the world. After daily emailing, weekly skype meetings and many phone calls, Brittany flew to Paris to see Sam again.

Three months later they met again in Spain and three months after that they met again in Thailand. It was a whirlwind romance from the start and has only gotten more exciting.

Facts About How I Met Sam by Brittany Randolph

  • We met during my senior year in college while I was living in Santa Monica, CA
  • Sam came to my door no less than 5 times and each time I pretended to not be home as I was not interested in dating a neighbor...at all.
  • One of the many times I was hiding in my bedroom while he was pounding away at the door, I was on the phone with my sister Rachel who literally said to me, "Brittany go out there and answer the door, he could be your husband!" I ran out, but he was already gone.
  • The first thing Sam said to me made me laugh out loud, I was immediately intrigued.
  • When Sam came to my door, I didn’t allow him in (I WAS A SINGLE GIRL LIVING ALONE!) so we stood in my doorway and talked for 2 hours. Most of those two hours I just stared at his arms.
  • If a mouse had not died in my apartment and Sam had not rushed down to help me, I may not have had the guts to agree to go out with him.
  • On our first date we both wore purple button down shirts and the same wash jeans. We looked like we had planned it.
  • After our first date I thought I had possibly met my future husband. After our second date I never wanted to see Sam again because I found him to be the most obnoxious person I had ever met.
  • Sam had exactly 7 books on his nightstand and every single one had "Jesus" in the title. I was terrified.
  • After three months of dating, Sam left for a year long trip around the world. Two months later his parents flew to LA and met me. I instantly fell in love with them and literally spent over six hours alone with them wandering around Santa Monica talking about existential psychology, family values and everything in between.
  • In our first year of dating, Sam and I traveled to Paris, Barcelona, Bangkok and Cabo San Lucas.
